1. The internet, and especially Skype, has improved communication with friends who live abroad.

Nowadays the internet has developed so much, that we can have many friends abroad, without even meeting them. There are many applications and sites where you can meet your distant friend, for example Facebook, Instagram and so on. Even though it’s better to have friends in real life, near you, online friends can also be close and trustful. But we should always remember, that there are bad people on internet, so we should be careful sharing our personal data to strangers.

In the past there was a tradition, when people had friends from other countries, and although they communicated only with letters, their friendship lasted long years. This friendships are called pen pals and it can be used now too.

Having a pen pal is a great way to practice reading and writing in a foreign language, improve your literacy, and learn about different countries and lifestyles. While traditional pen pals are less common nowadays due to the internet, you can still find pen pal clubs online or in magazines. These clubs bring people together with similar interests to make new friends online and exchange letters.
