MY FAMILY AT HOME

My family lives in a small house. It’s simple but pretty. It has a large garden. I like to work in the garden but my sister hates to work in the garden. She prefers to read. She reads in the morning, in the afternoon and at night.

I give all of the vegetables to mom and dad. They like to cook in our small kitchen. I eat any vegetable but my sister eats only a few.

My family always eats breakfast and dinner together. We talk. We laugh. Then my sister washes the dishes.

At night dad likes to listen to music. Mom works on the computer. I watch television. And my sister reads.

Soon we go to bed. My parents go to bed late but my sister and I go to bed early. I’m ready to go to sleep but my sister wants to keep reading.

Yes, our schools library is very good.

OUR VACATION

Every year we go to Florida. We like to go to the beach.

My favorite beach is called Emerson Beach. It is very long, with soft sand and palm trees. It is very beautiful. I like to make sandcastles and watch the sailboats go by. Sometimes there are dolphins and whales in the water!

Every morning we look for shells in the sand. I found fifteen big shells last year. I put them in a special place in my room. This year I want to learn to surf. It is hard to surf, but so much fun! My sister is a good surfer. She says that she can teach me. I hope I can do it!

Read about this very strange hotel, then answer the True/False questions.

What would your life be like if you were Albert Einstein. What clothes would be in your wardrobe if you were Marilyn Monroe? Or Madonna?

Well now you can discover the answer to all these questions and many more at the Fame Hotel in California. Ten miles outside Los Angeles, the Fame Hotel promises to answer the question “What if?”. When you check into the hotel, you choose a room. Each room has a name. There’s Clint Eastwood on the second floor and Elvis Presley on the third floor. In total, the Fame Hotel has 32 rooms, most of which are named after stars of Hollywood or music. But there are also famous writers (Mark Twain and Agatha Christie) and even some scientists and sports stars, such as Mike Tyson.

When you enter the room, you enter the life of that person. There are pictures everywhere. The owner of the hotel has tried to fill the room with objects, clothes, even food that he thinks the stars would have liked. Marilyn Monroe’s wardrobe is full of beautiful white dresses, Albert Einstein doesn’t have any socks in his wardrobe because the real Einstein never wore them! If you choose Mike Tyson’s room, you’ll be able to practice boxing in one corner of the room. And there’s even a skipping rope too!

I spoke to one guest staying in the Elvis Presley room. “I love this hotel,” he said to me. “I wanted to know ‘What would Elvis Presley eat for breakfast?’ and now I know”. That guest eats pancakes and strawberry ice cream every morning, just as Elvis liked to do. On the next table, the Einstein room’s guest is eating cabbage soup!

The company plans to open another Fame Hotel in New York next year and there are plans to expand into Europe too. I look forward to staying in the Winston Churchill suite in London!

Homework 15.02.2020

10 traditional Greek foods.

1. Taramasalata

Classic dips in Greek meal are tzatziki (yogurt, cucumber and garlic), melitzanosalata (aubergine), and fava (creamy pea purée). Very famous is taramasalata (fish roe dip) — creamy blend of pink or white fish roe with either a potato or bread base with a squeeze of lemon and olive oil.

taramasalata

2. Olives and olive oil

Greeks have been cultivating olives for millennia. Greek meals are accompanied by local olives, some cured in sea salt brine and some are used uncures. Olive oil is used in cooking and salads, and drizzled over most dips and dishes.

3. Dolmades

Each region in Greece has its variation on dolmades — the classic vine leaf parcel or stuffed vegetables such as tomatoes, peppers and aubergines. The stuffing often consists of minced meat with rice or rice flavoured with herbs like thyme, dill, fennel and oregano.

4. Moussaka

Greek moussaka is based on layers of cooked aubergine, minced lamb, fried puréed tomato, onion, garlic and spices like cinnamon with a final fluffy topping of white sauce and cheese.

5. Grilled meat

Souvlaki, chunks of skewered pork, is Greece’s favourite fast food, served on chopped tomatoes and onions in pitta bread with tzatziki. Gyros, too, is popular served in the same way. Favourite meat types are lamb, pork and goat.

6. Fresh fish

Fish and calamari fresh from the Mediterranean and Aegean Seas are incredibly tasty and cooked or grilled whole and drizzled with lemon and olive. Flavoursome smaller fish such as barbouni (red mullet) and marida (whitebait) are ideal lightly fried.

7. Courgette balls (kolokythokeftedes)

The fritter is usually made from grated or puréed courgette blended with dill, mint, or other top-secret spice combinations.

8. Octopus

Grilled or marinated, they make a fine meze (appetiser), or main course stewed in wine.

9. Feta & cheeses

Famous Greek cheese types are creamy and delicious feta that is kept in big barrels of brine. Also graviera, a hard golden-white cheese, perfect eaten cubed, or fried as saganaki. At bakeries you’ll find tyropita (cheese pie) while at tavernas, try salads like Cretan dakos, topped with a crumbling of mizithra, a soft, white cheese.

10. Honey & baklava

Greeks love their sweets, which are often based on olive oil and honey combinations encased in flaky filo pastry. The classic baklava involves honey, filo and ground nuts. Or try galatoboureko, a sinful custard-filled pastry. A more simple sweet is local thyme honey drizzled over fresh, thick Greek yogurt.

My favorite pets

I have got a lot of pets: three little fishes, turtle, hamster, two budgies. I love them very much. My turtles name is Cherepok. Cherepok likes eat and likes sun. My hamsters name is Kuzya. He is dark brown and white and he likes to eat carrots, sunflower and a lot of other foods. My first budgie name is Koko. He is yellow and green and he likes to fly. He likes to fly very much. Second bugie name is Viki. She is very beautiful and likes to fly too. My fishes haven’t got names, but I call them by their color. My mom and I care for them and love them very much.

DIFFERENT CULTURES – DIFFERENT PETS

It Britain, about 50% of homes have got a pet. Almost six million people in Britain have got a dog and five million have got a cat. Dogs, cats, birds and fish are world’s favorite pets.

But people in other countries have got different ideas about pets. In Arab countries, for example, dogs are not popular because people believe they aren’t clean. And in Africa, very few people have got animals as pets.

Some people in China and Japan have got small but noisy pets. They aren’t dogs, cats, fish or budgies: they’re fighting crickets. These pets are very noisy!

The Inuits of northern Canada keep bear cubs, foxes and baby seals. They look after them until the animals grow up.

My trip to Gyumri

On Wednesday we went to Gyumri. We went there by train and it took three hours. There we had a little house and we lived there two days. On the first day we went to handcraft shop. There handcrafts are beautiful and have high quality.

Also there are pictures that are crafted from plastic bottles.

Then we visited to churches and walked in the city. Gyumri is very beautiful city and there are a lot of old buildings.

On the second day we went to one of their schools and met pupils. We sang with them different songs. Then we went to our house and prepared to go back to Yerevan.
